Adult Literacies Online was developed by Learning Connections, part of the Lifelong Learning directorate of the Scottish Government.
Recommendation 8 of the
Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland report (2001) stated that one way of helping to improve the quality of programmes should be to develop "a national online databank" which it described as "a single point of access for available resources, training and development, research and networking". The resource bank has three main sections - Learning and Teaching, Training, Research and Reports.
