About ALO

Adult Literacies Online was developed by Learning Connections, part of the Lifelong Learning directorate of the Scottish Government.

Recommendation 8 of the Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland report (2001) stated that one way of helping to improve the quality of programmes should be to develop "a national online databank" which it described as "a single point of access for available resources, training and development, research and networking". The resource bank has three main sections - Learning and Teaching, Training, Research and Reports.

Your guide to using Adult Literacies Online

Please use our video guide for a step by step tour of this website. The video runs for around 16 minutes and tells you about:

• teaching resources: all kinds of learning, teaching and tutor training resources that have been tried and tested. There are quizzes, teaching ideas, worksheets, schemes of work, links to good websites, interactive learning objectives, excel worksheets, video clips and lots more.
• research and reports
• tutor training resources
• how to comment on the resources you find here
• the option of sharing your own resources through ALO
