The Adult Literacy and Numeracy Curriculum Framework for Scotland and the Curriculum Wheel.
The Framework
The Curriculum Framework arose out of the Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland (ALNIS) report of 2001 that recommended that 'the quality of programmes should be improved through a new curriculum framework' (p3). These guidelines also build on Literacies in the Community (2000): resources for practitioners and managers (the LIC pack).
The content pages above set out the good practice framework that has been adopted for Scotland and provided a guide to tutoring, guidance, staff development and training. A range of resources have been developed alongside the framework document to support you in putting the ideas in the framework into practice. Teaching and learning materials developed for use in Scotland should take account of the principles in the curriculum framework document.
The wheel
The Framework uses a wheel to illustrate how the Framework can be used to help learners work out their own individual learning plan and goals. The curriculum is represented as concentric circles on a wheel to act as a visual reminder for tutors and learners of what is available to be taught and learned in adult literacy and numeracy and the principles that should inform them.
The wheel is available online and there is also a CD-ROM version, as well as tutorials to help you use this resource.
There is even a French version of the wheel - La Roue - and an accompanying poster.

Please note that while these downloads were designed to accompany the CD-ROM they can equally be used with the online version of the wheel. When directed to insert the CD-ROM, simply open up the online version of the wheel instead if you wish to use the tutorials in this way.
