Numeracy 1 is session 9 of the revised Initial Training in Adult Literacies Learning (ITALL) pack. This aims to give tutors some knowledge of effective practices that enable adults to become confident, competent and critical users of numeracy.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, participants will be aware of the importance of:
- acknowledging a learner’s past experience of learning and using numeracy, which may include failure
- understanding the variety of methods people employ in doing calculations
- building on the learner’s existing knowledge, skills and understanding
- the use of language in numeracy learning and teaching
- learning from mistakes
- relating numeracy learning to the learner’s uses of numeracy outside the classroom
